My Name is Việt, Nam Việt !

An Artist to keep an eye on...

Hoang Nam Viet is a celebrated artist who works across a variety of media. His portraits, usually of familiar individuals like his friends and family, believe a deeper search for meaning in the everyday. A subtle commentary on Vietnam ‘s contemporary life, contemplations on the nature of freedom and a desire for change are trapped within the curious gazes of his subjects. Nam Viet always says something about humanity. His paintings reflect his diary. Every artwork has a reason, and this is very important to him.

«Art is part of my real everyday life. When an event happens in our society such as Covid that strikes us all, I want to talk about the Vietnamese stories that have been affected — even an event in my life (e.g. my divorce) gives me a strong effect which is translated into my artwork. It is not just an idea or concept: I use my real life to create art. Sometimes it is impressionism, sometimes it is abstract. I think it should happen naturally. »

A Young Artist with International Recognition that has exposed solo exhibition in some of the most reputable Art Galleries in Vietnam such as Gallery Quynh in HCMC Vietnam, and as won several awards including the international award of Bronze Award, Cannes Lions.
